[design]: One Room Challenge - Week One - The Plan

4.02.2015

I've seen One Room Challenge around and viewed finished rooms but never really spent much time understanding what it is all about.  It so happened that yesterday I was sitting in my car waiting while my youngest slept in the car seat (yes, I can be that kind of mom) I browsed a bit and happened upon Linda's Calling It Home site where this great idea originated. From what I understood there is a group of some 20 designers who are invited to participate in One Room Challenge on Wednesdays for six weeks and then there is a sort of a linking party for the rest on Thursdays for six weeks.

Considering that I don't have enough challenges in my life currently (wink wink!), I've decided to link up at pretty much a moment's notice. It helps that I already have some plans and a room that I really want to tackle. I wrote about my studio/office plans back in November, but here we are some 4 months later and not only has nothing been done, I think we dumped more stuff in that room.  Six weeks does not sound that long but then again it will take me up to mid May and having this space done for spring would be great as I could get creative again just as nature awakens from this long and dreary winter.

So before I go over the plan again, here are before and in progress photos:

Basically mess and more mess. Only redeeming point is that we have clean slate once we actually clean this space.  So the plan is as follows:

I typically don't like working against any set timetable as I like to be free to find decor that is best bang for my buck - but main pieces are already in the house and we'll see how I can source the rest in a creative way.

In terms of direction for this space, I want it to exude controlled chaos, toned down boho chic and modern vintage all in one. I've searched (for all of two minutes) for couple of photos to illustrate what I had in mind that I can show off as inspiration photos. Idea is to create floppy but refined boho chic studio as some of these spaces below have been labelled:

    1. Thanks, it took a lot of sweat and tears to get that far as we did it ourselves. Not to mention some horrors we found lurking behind those gross walls ... but all is forgotten when we look at the space now (and imagine it clutter free!).

  4. The progress you've already made has drastically changed the room's appearance! Can't wait to see how well it will look once you get all the pretty stuff in place! This is my third time participating in the ORC linking party & it is great motivation to get those unfinished spaces done. Good luck!
